Leapin Lizard Gallery has something for everyone!
Handmade goods, gifts & great art!
We began Leapin Lizard Gallery to give emerging artists an opportunity to show their work along with those who were already established. Starting with the idea that art should be accessible to everyone, we hoped to create an environment where people felt welcomed, entertained and inspired while experiencing a variety of artists and their visions. We believe the gallery has become all of these things and more. It is an elegant and eclectic mix of extraordinary works where “Art is Life and Life is Art”.
Combining fine art and American craft with a twist of whimsy and functionality, the gallery features contemporary artists and exhibits original work including paintings, collage & assemblage, outdoor sculpture, furniture, photography, ceramics, wire, glass, & a wide selection of fabulous jewelry!
We like to say they offer “Fine Art, Functional works & Frivolities”. You’ll find one-of-a-kind clocks and hand-blown glass, outdoor sculpture, unique furnishings & a huge range of gifts both practical and fanciful; handbags made from record albums, pulp fiction books & old stop signs, our most talked about work, Diane Komater's fabulous wire sculptures & an unmatched jewelry & wearable art selection. We have everything from exquisite sterling silver, colored concrete & pearl jewelry, pendants made from vintage bottle caps & enameled copper chokers. The gallery also offers gift certificates in any amount.
After six years in Bar Harbor Maine, we have relocated the gallery to MainStrasse Village in Covington Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati. We purchased a fabulous 1880's church and have renovated the three levels to house the gallery, a fabulous event space & several studio spaces for local artists. The first and second floors are now complete and the galleries are open.
The former Methodist church is a perfect fit for the gallery with over 30 stained glass windows, 16 & 30 ft ceilings, and an enormous pipe organ that fills the space with sound.
The 1880’s Methodist Church at the corner of 8th Main in MainStrasse has been converted to an industrial looking loft-style gallery, but when we purchased the building in 2005 it looked more like a giant 70’s rec-room than a clean, sophisticated art space.
The renovations took about a year, and the efforts were well worth it. Offering handmade work from over 150 national & regional artists, the space is filled with unique pieces that you just don’t see anywhere else in the area. The atmosphere is inviting and fresh. Crisp, 16 ft walls pulse with original works of art that range from paintings to pewter body casts.
